Delores Waters Obituary

Life began for Delores Waters on January 29,1952 in Jacksonville, Florida, daughter of the late Doris Polite and Earl Sanford.

Delores, affectionately known to all as “Dee Dee”, was reared in a Godly home primarily residing with her grandmother, Mamie Lee Polite.

She was a vivacious, outgoing young woman who loved singing and developed a flair for fashion at an early age. She attended local schools in Northwest Jacksonville and graduated from Stanton High School, where she was voted “Best Dressed”. Shortly after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Timothy Waters, II and became a supremely devoted housewife and mother to her three children.

For decades, countless family and friends have received yearly calls from Delores singing her soulful rendition of “Happy Birthday”. Not only did she have a passion for singing, she also loved dancing and performing hits from her favorite singer, Luther Vandross. At 4”11, Delores was known for her big personality and feistiness. Never one to mince words, her candor and outspokenness was never overshadowed by her compassionate heart of gold.

On March 26, 2024, God in His infinite Wisdom, Mercy, and Grace called from among us a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend and she went home to the Kingdom of her heavenly Father.

She leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and great memories. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Doris Polite and Earl Sanford; and grandmother, Mamie Lee Polite.

Loved by many and forgotten by none, Delores will be forever cherished by her children, Timothy Waters, III (Katina), Adrian Waters, and LaVett Waters; grandchildren, Timothy Waters, IV, Brandon Croissey, Kasyn Waters and A’Dyn Waters; and three great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Sylvia Domino (Giovanni), Billy Pickering, Carey Pickering (Sheila), and Terry Pickering; a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Family was an essential part of her life. She spent a great deal of time with her children in Maryland, Georgia and Jacksonville, and was an integral part of all aspects of their lives. She will truly be missed by her sons, daughter, grandchildren, and many others.
